Where to Watch Movies – Indoors or Under the Stars

Entertainment |

Sometimes, you just want to get comfortable and watch a movie… even when you’re on vacation.

Whether it’s an outdoor screening under the stars or the full cinema experience with popcorn, candy and air-conditioning, the Cayman Islands has you covered.

Regal Cinemas

Need to catch the blockbuster as soon as it’s out? The cinema at Camana Bay has six screens and shows all the latest releases.  Earlier this year, they also added a VIP auditorium to the mix that includes eight rows of reclining chairs, tons of space and reserved seating for just $10 more per person.  Perfect for sinking into watching a great movie or cozy enough for some much needed romantic time, Regal Cinemas takes going to the movies to the next level.

It is worth bearing in mind that matinee showings (before 6pm) are cheaper.

Alternatively, if you want to do dinner and a movie, Camana Bay has a very good selection of restaurants and ice cream/ gelato shops where one can eat before or after the movie.

Moonlight & Movies

During certain festive periods throughout the year, Camana Bay puts on a special complimentary Moonlight & Movies series.

The movies are shown outdoors in the pleasant garden-like setting of Gardenia Court.  A large screen is erected, folding chairs are set out, and friends and families are encouraged to bring blankets and pillows and make themselves comfortable on the grass. Movies are always family-friendly, with PG-13 rated choices.

Moonlight & Movies is scheduled for every Tuesday throughout June, July and August starting at 7pm.  Movie screenings are open to all. There are no tickets and no reservations. Just pack a picnic and show up!

Movie selections are not made until nearer the time. Check http://www.camanabay.com/events-calendar/ for details.

Movies Under the Stars

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman also shows family friendly movies under star-filled skies on a nightly basis. Any guests dining at Andiamo, a casual Italian restaurant within the resort, can stretch out on comfortable sun loungers after dinner to watch the movie.

The lounge area is open to non-guests of the resort and can be a great option for families wanting to dine out. Dinner options include homemade pizzas, pastas and other Italian favorites, all served alfresco. As soon as the food is cleared away, the movie keeps the kids entertained, while parents can relax over a glass of wine.

Movies change nightly but are always child-friendly. The schedule is not published online, but is available in the resort, or by calling (345) 815 6912.
